What is Fascia?

Fascia is a web of living, electric, connective tissue made of collagen and other fibres that literally weaves through our whole body and is completely connected. In a living being, it is a white, glistening web that slides and flows and holds everything in our body. We are floating in fascia. It is the largest system in our body and connects the other systems together through it.

Fascia is not just connective structural tissue – it is highly sensory (lots of nerve endings!), is emotional (we can experience release of stuck emotions during MFR treatments) and is deeply intelligent.

Fascia has generally been ignored in the medical and scientific communities because we always studied dead bodies, not living ones. Times have changed and we are beginning to understand just how important fascia is as a sensory system and how it affects our overall well-being. And it weaves everything together- showing us that our bodies are not just separate systems that behave independently of each other. They all work together!

That is why working on one part of the body with MFR can affect other areas in a positive way- because releasing tension and adhesions in the jaw for example can help release the pelvis.
